ABOUT LSPA

Amiyah Gray is one of the 26 participants of the Louisiana Scholastic Press Association Summer Institute. She is 14 years old and attends Northside High School in Lafayette, Louisiana.

“My radio teacher recommended it”, Gray explained.

Her teacher thought she had a bright future in journalism and Gray has always been told that her voice is a pleasant one to listen to.

She first was introduced into journalism after a scheduling mixup at school when she tried to get out of band, and instead of her getting to pick a new elective an administrator picked it for her. Even though it wasn’t her choice to begin journalism, Gray is happy with the results and plans on pursuing a career in the field.

Gray wants to study journalism at Louisiana State University or Louisiana Tech University. Her idea of succeeding in life includes having a goal set and having the drive and motivation to accomplish it.

“Achieving all my goals, having my life in order, Gray said, and having extra money,”

Louisiana Scholastic Press Association is a camp sponsored by the Manship School of Mass Communication. It is held June 5th-11th at the LSU campus. They teach students writing, broadcast, and design.
